About our founder and CEO

Erma Yunita (we call her Nita) is passionate about caring for others and has, since her University days, been very involved in voluntary work. That compassionate nature was the force that created Chuah Support Services Pty Ltd at the height of Covid-19 when she received news of the resulting economic meltdown in Bali and the passing away of a few of her close friends.

Community work

Nita was the leader of a couple of women’s organisations including being vice president of Wanita KatoliK Republik Indonesia (Catholic Women’s Association, of Indonesia, a national organisation). Her inspirational energy and warm-heartedness in these leadership rolls gained her an enviably wide network among businesses and various levels of government. She is an active member of Carlingford Rotary Club (in Sydney), and as a member of Rotary International, recently instigated and helped raise funds for the construction of toilets for a remote community in Singaraja, Bali which made a huge impact to the lives of that community. More such similar projects are in the pipeline.

Protecting workers

Having learnt of many instances of exploitation of Indonesian workers in Australian farms by both unscrupulous farmers and contractors, she decided to use her connections at government level to help look after fellow Indonesian workers here. Therefore we have worked with relevant government departments to develop agreement templates which we use for farms and other businesses and workers. We therefore do not place workers with farms and businesses that do not agree to our terms. In fact, if we learn of poor treatment or exploitation of Indonesian workers, we do not hesitate to take action and to offer help. With the cooperation of our Darwin Consulate we recently rescued several workers from an abusive employer and a contractor who was underpaying them.

Unfortunately there is widespread exploitation of vulnerable workers from various other countries as well but we can focus on helping only our fellow Indonesians because we have the trust and support of our Consulate officials.

Appealing for greater opportunities for unskilled workers.
Speaking at the major international forum in July 2022 involving some 150 countries where Indonesia has Embassies. Significant Indonesian business people were invited to address the conference and Chuah Support Services was one of only 2 companies from Australia invited to speak, Nita made an impassioned plea for raising the standard of the very large unskilled portion of our population. Her speech was very well received and won us the support from the highest office.

As an insightful business person in Australia, she has a good understanding of actual trade between Australia and Indonesia at the business level which can be very different from G to G dealings. This enables her to give good feedback to the relevant officials back in Jakarta. Her energetic involvement in trying to improve trade between Indonesian businesses in both countries is on-going and she actively helps businesses network.

Network and recognition

Nita has been for many years an outspoken supporter of poorer members of our society and has earned the attention of our government as a result. We are very thankful for her steadfast and very focused efforts to help workers get good jobs in Australia and New Zealand with proper pay, conditions and superannuation.

Below are some of the events and activities Nita had participated in which allows her to put forward to the authorities genuine concerns and suggestions for improvements in how our government can assist our people gain access to, in particular, farm jobs in Australia.
